Special Needs Grooming
We pride ourselves on the care of your pet and want them to look their best, but we will not put their appearance over their comfort. They will be well taken care of and should the process be too stressful or uncomfortable for them, we will discontinue the process and charge for work completed. Please understand this is for the safety of your pet and our staff.
Some pets can be uneasy or apprehensive during their grooming visits. As your pet gets older, they may not tolerate a grooming session like they used to. Most people assume that grooming a senior pet quickly and infrequently helps to alleviate the stress of the situation. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Special needs pets require more breaks and downtime to make the experience more comfortable for them. Standing for long periods during the process is not ideal and most are perfectly content to relax on a blanket before restarting the process. More frequent grooms also ensure your pet does not have to go through strenuous de-matting and can reduce the entire time of the process by as much as 30% if not more.
Special needs pets have a greater chance of injury, especially those with pre-existing health problems. Therefore, your pet will be groomed in a grooming style that will not add to their excitement, but with cleanliness and comfort kept in mind. Sometimes pre-existing conditions arise unexpectedly, such as skin allergies, moles and warts, bone and joint sensitivities, mental and behavioral changes and more. For example: Arthritis can be painful and could be aggravated during grooming. Grooming may cause your pet to be to the point that he may be a little sore or uncomfortable afterwards at home. We recommend speaking with your vet about pain medications or sedatives that may help keep your pet comfortable during and after grooming. At times your pet may need assistance standing or additional comfort. At our discretion we will utilize a second trained groomer to help. Unfortunately, in most situations we cannot accommodate this in our mobile unit, but our highly trained staff in our salon are happy to help. This could potentially result in extra fees but understand that everything we do, and our time spent is solely for the safety and comfort of your aging or special needs companion.
Puppies First Visit
A puppy's first pet grooming session is a momentous occasion for pet owners, almost on par with a parent taking their child for their first haircut. The experience, can have a lifelong effect on a pup, be it positive or negative.
During the first grooming session, the main idea is to familiarize puppies with the process. A pup's initial experiences at the grooming salon can set the stage for how he responds to being groomed for the rest of his life. So, it's important to make the experience as pleasant as possible, and preparing the pups for what could be a scary experience
We encourage pet owners to prepare their pups to be handled in ways they might not be used to. For example, they may want to regularly tickle their paws (including between their toes), ears, and tushies, which are some of the areas the groomer will be working on.
We stick to an abbreviated session to avoid stressing your pup, enabling them to get used to being handled by a groomer. Keep in mind that pups may be frightened when they are first exposed to such alien devices and tools as clippers, noisy dryers, and grooming tables.
Many puppy owners make the mistake of waiting until their pups are six months of age or older before taking them for grooming. As a general rule, puppies should be no more than 16 weeks old, as younger pups are easier to train. They also need to have had all their shots before being groomed for the first time. The initial grooming sessions should be kept short and sweet. We recommend sticking with the following services the first few times they come to the salon:
